Alsons Power Highlights Sustainability Initiatives at Regional Environmental Summit

Alsons Power’s SEC and SHPC teams received Green Partnership Award. The Maasim-based facilities were recognized at the summit for their leadership in river rehabilitation, watershed conservation, and inclusive sustainable development in the SOCCSKSARGEN region.

Alsons Power Group reaffirmed its commitment to advancing environmental protection and climate resilience as it joined government and industry leaders at the 7th SOCCSKSARGEN (SOX) Environmental Summit organized by DENR-EMB XII.

In his presentation, Ruben Tungpalan, Alsons Power VP for Corporate Affairs, highlighted the company’s Adopt-an-Estero initiative. This program promotes regular cleanup activities, waste segregation, and community education along the Siguil River and nearby waterways—strengthening collaboration with LGUs, national agencies, and local communities to restore river ecosystems and prevent pollution.

Mr. Ruben Tungpalan, VP for Corporate Affairs, joined fellow panelists in discussing sustainability during the 7th SOX Environmental Summit, themed Pollutions to Solutions: Engineering the Circular Economy.

Tungpalan also showcased the Group’s long-term Watershed Enhancement Program (WEP), led by the Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC) and Siguil Hydro Power Corporation (SHPC), in partnership with the Conrado & Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation. The program rehabilitates the Siguil River watershed through forest restoration and agroforestry initiatives such as coffee and abaca production, and livelihood support for indigenous communities. Its biodiversity efforts include collaboration with the Philippine Eagle Foundation, which enabled the rehabilitation and release of the Philippine Eagle “Sarangani.”

At the summit, Alsons Power’s Maasim-based facilities—SEC and SHPC—received the Green Partnership Award, recognizing the Group’s sustained leadership in river rehabilitation, watershed conservation, and inclusive sustainable development across the SOCCSKSARGEN region.
