In keeping with our brand promise – We Power with Care, Alsons Power’s sustainability programs have generally been focused on three key pillars that embody our desire to be a caring and responsible partner to our communities:
for the Environment 
We are committed to protecting and nurturing the environment.
Within the Sarangani Energy Corporation’s power plant is one of the largest watershed protection projects in the Philippines to provide forest cover for the Siguil and Kamanga River Watersheds.
The Sarangani Energy Watershed Protection Project spans over 7,500 hectares. This project also provides livelihood to over 450 families of the B’laan and T’boli indigenous communities who assist in planting and nurturing the seedlings. We provide them with training, farming, implements, a stipend, and help them in finding possible markets for the fruits harvested from the watershed site.
We promote programs that advance the pursuit of excellence in education and athletics in the areas we operate in.
Since the inception of our power business, we have provided scholarships to 4,000 individual elementary, high school, and college students from Iligan, General Santos, Sarangani, and Zamboanga City.
We have also donated and helped build 40 fully-furnished classroom and library buildings including desks, chairs, blackboards, books for the library, lab equipment, and toilet facilities.

We help fund our host community and local government unit’s health, electrification, and environmental projects.
In 2021, we turned over more than 8 Million Pesos in DOE 1-94 funds to Sangali, Zamboanga City whch was used to procure an emergency vehicle and other equipment for its community health centers. In Sarangani, a separate DOE 1-94 fund was turned over to the Provincial Government of Sarangani for the purchase of a fully-equipped ambulance in the community hospital of the municipality of Gian.

Alsons Power’s partner in implementing our sustainbility projects is the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation (Alcantara Foundation).
Established to honor the memory of our founders, the Alcantara Foundation is a private, non-stock, non-profit social development foundation. As the Alcantara Group’s social development arm, it is the expression of the Alcantara Group’s continuing commitment to empower people towards a peaceful and progressive Mindanao.
Under the Department of Energy Order No. 1-94 (DOE 1-94), power generators are required to set aside and allot PHP 0.0025 per kilowatt hour of total electricity sales to help fund the host community and local government unit’s health, electrification and environmental projects. ACR’s Western Mindanano Power Corporation recently turned over more than 8 Million Pesos in DOE 1-94 funds to its host barangay in Sangali, Zamboanga City that were used by the barangay to procure an emergency vehicle and other equipment for its community health centers to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. In another part of Mindanao, ACR’s Sarangani Energy Corporation turned over its DOE 1-94 funds to the Provincial Government of Sarangani for the purchase of a fully-equipped ambulance assigned to the newly inaugurated community hospital in the Municipality of Glan.
From the beginning of the pandemic up to today, Alson’s Power continues to make sure that the residents and front-liners in its Host Communities in Mindanao had access to food and other essentials. Alsons Power plant and project personnel distributed several hundred sacks of rice, other food items, bottled water, patient beds, and PPEs to front-liners and residents of Zamboanga City, Iligan City, General Santos City, and the Province of Sarangani and Zamboanga del Norte.
Excellence in education is one of our top priorities. Throughout the years, we have helped build over 30 fully-furnished classrooms, libraries, and laboratory buildings in various public elementary and high schools in Zamboanga City and Sarangani Province. We have also supported 4,000 scholars who continued their studies in higher education.
In partnership with Olympic Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz, ACR’s Zamboanga City-based Western Mindanao Power Corporation provides 15 young aspiring weightlifters from Zamboanga City with a subsidy that covers school uniforms, shoes, bags, and school supplies, as well as monthly stipend for transportation and food allowances for the school year. The program is part of ACR’s commitment to help provide more educational opportunities for young people in the areas where in operate, including Hidilyn Diaz’s hometown Zamboanga City. ACR is a key supplier of electricity in Zamboanga City thru its 100-MW Western Mindanao Power Corporation power plant. The partnership aims to produce world-class Filipino weightliftersd and support the country’s effort in winning Gold in the Olympics. To date, several of the program’s 15 scholars have garnered medals in various international competitions, the most recent of which was the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifter Championships 2022 held at the Uzbekistan Sports Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where Alsons Power Scholars won 7 Gold, a Silver, and a Bronze medals as well as the Junior Women’s 49-kilogram division and Youth Women’s 45-kilogram division titles.
Withing the vicinity of ACR’s Sarangani Energy Corporation baseload coal-fired power plant, Sarangani Energy Corporation and the Alcantara Foundation are engaged in one of the largest watershed protection projects in the entire country to provide forest cover for the Siguil and Kamanga River Watersheds. The watershed protection project comprises an area of 7,500 hectares, which is larger than the City of Manila and nearly twice the size of Makati City. The project also provides livelihood to families fron the Blaan and T’boli indigenous communities who provide assistance in planting and nurturing the seedlings.
ACR’s power facilities have consistently complied with all applicable environmental laws, rules, and regulations. Emission levels have always been well within limits set by the national government.
Aligned with ACR’s commitment to preserve the coastal areas within nthe vicinity of its power plants, the Company has planted mangrove seedlings in Iligan, Sarangani, and Zamboanga City. The 43. 85- hectare Kamanga Marine Eco-Tourism Park and Sanctuary within the vicinity of ACR’s Sarangani Energy Corporation power plant was cited among the 12 Outstanding Marine Protected Areas in the country for “implementing exemplary marine and coastal governance” in the Para el Mar (for the Sea) Awards for Most Outstanding Marine Protected Areas in the Philippines.
