Maasim, Sarangani Vice Mayor Visitacion Nambatac expressed her appreciation to Alsons Power Group, the power business unit of the Alcantara Group, for its pivotal role in driving the municipality’s growth and development over the years.
Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC), a subsidiary of Alsons Power based in Maasim, has remitted over ₱50 million in special taxes to the Maasim Municipal Government during the first three quarters of 2024.
“These remittances empower us to implement essential projects that benefit our constituents, from infrastructure development to social services,” said Vice Mayor Nambatac. She, along with Municipal Treasurer Editha Mamintas, received the check representing the two percent Gross Income Tax (GIT) share from SEC.
SEC, a 237-megawatt state-of-the-art fluidized bed coal-fired power plant, operates within the Kamanga Agro-Industrial Economic Zone (KAIEDC) in Maasim, Sarangani. Its GIT remittance complies with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) law (Republic Act No. 7916), which mandates a 2% special tax on the gross income of companies in economic zones, ensuring local communities benefit from these activities.
Vice Mayor Nambatac emphasized how SEC’s contributions align with Maasim’s development goals, enabling the local government to fund more projects that improve residents’ quality of life.
Alsons Power Group, through its subsidiaries, remains committed to unlocking the potential of its host communities and empowering progress, living up to its brand promise: “We Power with Care.”
