Graduating college scholars of SEC join plant personnel during a recent recognition program celebrating their academic achievements.
In celebration of Education Month, Alsons Power Group’s Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC) is highlighting the achievements of its scholars and the opportunities that education continues to create for young people in its host communities.
SEC recently brought together 21 graduating college scholars at its power plant in Maasim, Sarangani Province, recognizing a milestone made possible by years of hard work, perseverance, and support.
Leading the batch were Catherine Discorson of the University of the Philippines Mindanao and Princess Ailenor Henson of Holy Trinity College (HTC)-General Santos City. Both scholars, who are from Alabel, Sarangani, graduated magna cum laude.

For Discorson, graduation marked the culmination of nearly a decade as an SEC scholar, beginning in Grade 7 and continuing through her fourth year in college. She is now giving back through education as a volunteer teacher in Simunul, Tawi-Tawi.
“As a teacher now, I have come to appreciate even more how important education is, and how support from organizations and corporations like SEC can help make education possible for students,” she said.

For Henson’s family, the scholarship provided much-needed support throughout her college journey.
“The scholarship was a huge help to us as parents. We don’t earn much, but with SEC’s support, we were able to see our daughter through college,” her father shared in the vernacular.
Five other SEC scholars graduated cum laude. From Alabel were Micah Suzanne Albarando of Mindanao State University (MSU)-General Santos and Aleah Christine Morido of Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges (RMMC). From Maasim were Erika Zamora and Elaijah Odtuhan of MSU-General Santos and Desiree Espetacion of HTC.
Dycee Love Fajardo of RMMC was also recognized for academic excellence as a consistent Dean’s Lister.
As part of the recognition activity, the scholars toured the SEC power plant, giving them a closer look at the facility, its operations, and some of the career opportunities available in the energy industry.
SEC’s scholarship program forms part of Alsons Power Group’s continuing investment in education and human development in its host communities. By supporting deserving students through college, the program helps young people from communities such as Alabel and Maasim gain access to opportunities that can shape their careers, improve the lives of their families, and contribute to their communities.
This Education Month, their achievements underscore a simple but powerful idea: when young people are given access to education and the support to pursue it, the impact can extend far beyond graduation.
Through initiatives such as its scholarship program, Alsons Power continues to put its “We Power with Care”commitment into action by helping empower the next generation through education.
