Alsons Power scholar Rosegie Ramos etched her name in Olympic history, securing a spot at the highly anticipated 2024 Paris Olympics after a resounding triumph in the 49-kg category at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup held in Phuket, Thailand last April 1.

The 20-year old Zamboanguena weightlifter dominated Group B with an impressive total lift of 190kg, including lifts of 87kg in the snatch and 103kg in the clean and jerk. Her stellar performance ensured her placement in the top 10 of the IWF Olympic Qualification Ranking, solidifying her position as a contender for the Paris Olympics.

Ramos, one the 12 “power scholars” under the Alsons Power-Hidilyn Diaz (APHD) Scholarship Program, is the 7th Filipino athlete to represent the country in the Paris Olympics. The APHD Scholarship program is a collaboration among Alsons Power through its Zamboanga City-based subsidiary— Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC), Olympic Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz, and the Philippine Weightlifting Association Inc.

The program underscores Alsons Power’s commitment to fostering excellence and nurturing talent from Mindanao, empowering success in both sports and academics. In addition to training and gym access, the scholarship program offers comprehensive academic support to its APHD student-athletes, covering school fees, uniforms, and books, enabling them to excel in both arenas.

Alsons Power Group is immensely proud of Rosegie Ramos’s accomplishments, which not only advance her career but also bring honor to the Philippines. Her transformation from a promising young talent to an Olympic contender underscores the significance of dedication, hard work, and the steadfast support provided by initiatives like the APHD Scholarship Program by Alsons Power Group.
