Alsons Power Group’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development continues to gain national recognition, with recent honors from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
During the DENR IX Stakeholders’ Recognition 2025, Alsons Energy Development Corporation (AEDC), a subsidiary of Alsons Power, was recognized for its active support to the government agency’s initiatives in the Zamboanga Peninsula through the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (DENR IX PRAISE). The award is given to DENR’s valued partners who have significantly contributed to the Department’s programs, projects, and advocacies related to environmental protection, conservation, and sustainable development.
This recognition reflects AEDC’s commitment to sustainability, particularly through its participation in key activities such as the Month of the Ocean Coastal Clean-Up & Mangrove Tree Growing, World Wetlands Day 2025 Coastal Clean-Up & Mangrove Tree Growing, and Bike, Hike, Plant – Philippine Arbor Day 2025, among other efforts.
“Our team, including our colleagues from Sindangan Zamboanga Power Corporation (SZPC), is proud to support the DENR’s greening and conservation programs. As a hydropower project, we see this as part of our responsibility—not just generating renewable energy but also protecting the natural resources our operations rely on,” shared Llewellyn R. Lisondra, Senior HR Associate and Project Assurance Supervisor of SZPC.
Meanwhile, in Sarangani Province, Alsons Power’s commitment to environmental stewardship was also recognized on a national platform. During the awarding ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), the DENR – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) recognized Siguil Hydro Power Corporation (SHPC) as one of its top private sector partners under the Adopt-an-Estero/Water Body Program, a nationwide initiative promoting public-private collaboration in the fight against water pollution and ecosystem degradation.
Under a formal Memorandum of Agreement with EMB Region 12, SHPC adopted a critical stretch of the Siguil River, committing to regular cleanups, pollution control, and water quality monitoring. This partnership includes technical collaboration with EMB’s Ambient Monitoring and Technical Services Section to assess river conditions and track improvements. Beyond physical interventions, SHPC also co-leads public education campaigns and barangay-level consultations to deepen community involvement and foster shared accountability in watershed protection.
The summit, themed “Innovation and Strategies in Water Pollution Control and Compliance”, brought together government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and private organizations to highlight scalable approaches to water management.
SHPC’s initiatives along the Siguil River were highlighted as a model for corporate engagement in ecosystem restoration and pollution control, helping protect and preserve vital water resources in the region.
As one of the lead implementers of Alsons Power’s Watershed Enhancement Program (WEP) along the Siguil River, SHPC continues to champion environmental initiatives in Sarangani. In collaboration with fellow Maasim-based unit Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC) and the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), the WEP has successfully planted 71,523 trees as of the first quarter of 2025. This includes 36,337 agroforestry and 35,186 reforestation species, achieving an impressive 99% survival rate.
SHPC operates a 14.5-megawatt run-of-river hydroelectric facility, which harnesses the Siguil River’s natural flow without altering its course. This approach preserves aquatic habitats and minimizes disruption to downstream communities. The facility supplies clean, renewable energy to communities in Mindanao and reinforces Alsons Power’s mission to provide reliable power while caring for the environment.
As Alsons Power expands its renewable energy portfolio, it remains steadfast in its responsibility to care for the communities and ecosystems it serves. Recognitions from the DENR further inspire Alsons Power to continue championing environmental sustainability, alongside its mission of delivering reliable, affordable energy toward an energy-secure future.
