Students, teachers, and community leaders gather during Alsons Power Group’s CEPA activity in Maitum, conducted with DepEd Sarangani, the Municipal Government of Maitum, and DENR-CENRO Kiamba.
Protecting Mt. Busa’s forests and wildlife starts with helping communities understand the important role they play in conservation.
Alsons Power Group recently brought its environmental education campaign to James Alfred Strong Integrated School in Sitio Labudog, Barangay Upo, Maitum, Sarangani Province, engaging around 120 students, teachers, and community leaders in discussions on wildlife conservation and climate preparedness.
The Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) activity was conducted in partnership with DepEd Sarangani, the Municipal Government of Maitum, and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)–Kiamba, a field office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12.
The initiative forms part of Alsons Power’s environmental stewardship efforts under its “We Power with Care”commitment, particularly in communities that share the Mt. Busa landscape.
Spanning the Maasim-Kiamba-Maitum (MAKIMA) area in Sarangani and extending into parts of South Cotabato, including Tboli, Mt. Busa is a key biodiversity area that provides habitat for threatened and endemic wildlife, including the critically endangered Philippine Eagle.
Since 2022, Alsons Power has conducted a series of CEPA sessions in schools and communities across the Mt. Busa landscape to help deepen awareness of the importance of protecting its forests, wildlife, and natural resources.
The company has also partnered with the Philippine Eagle Foundation on conservation initiatives in the area. In 2022, Alsons Power supported the return to the wild of Philippine Eagle “Sarangani,” which was rescued in Maitum and later released into its Mt. Busa forest habitat following rehabilitation.

The latest CEPA session focused on the Philippine Eagle and the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats. Participants also learned about El Niño preparedness and practical measures families and communities can take during prolonged periods of dry weather.
“Protecting Mt. Busa and its rich biodiversity is a responsibility we all share. We appreciate partners like Alsons Power for helping bring conservation closer to our communities, especially to young people who will eventually become stewards of these forests and wildlife,” CENR Officer Felix Robles Jr. said.

By bringing together government agencies, schools, and local communities, Alsons Power is committed to helping build a stronger culture of environmental stewardship around Mt. Busa—empowering people, especially the next generation, to take an active role in protecting the forests and wildlife that sustain their communities.
Through initiatives such as CEPA, Alsons Power continues to put “We Power with Care” into action by extending care beyond the communities it serves to the environment and biodiversity they all share.
