Alsons Power-Hidilyn Diaz Scholars Win 7 Gold Medals at Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship￼
Two sisters from Zamboanga City garnered nine medals including seven golds at the 2022 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from July15 to 25.
2022 Asian Junior Weightlifting Triple Gold Medalist Rosegie Ramos
19- year- old Rosegie Ramos bagged three gold medals in the 49 kg. Junior division winning gold for the snatch, clean and jerk, and overall. She lifted 80 kg. in the snatch, 96 kg. in the clean and jerk, and 176 kg. overall.
2022 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Quadruple Gold Medalist Rose Jean Ramos
In the 45kg division, Rosegie’s younger sister 17-year-old Rose Jean Ramos competed in both the Youth and Junior categories. Rose Jean swept the Youth category – winning gold for the Philippines in the snatch, clean and jerk, and overall. Rose Jean lifted 70 kg, in the snatch, 83 kg. in the clean and jerk, and 153 kg. overall. In the Junior category Rose Jean won gold for the snatch, bronze for the clean and jerk, and silver overall.
The Ramos sisters are among 15 “power scholars” from Zamboanga City under the Alsons Power-Hidilyn Diaz scholarship program spearheaded by the Mindanao-based power firm and Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
Alsons Power partnered with Diaz in 2016 to spearhead this scholarship program as part of the power company’s commitment to help provide more educational opportunities for young people in Mindanao. The partnership aims to produce world-class Filipino weightlifters and support the country’s efforts to continue winning gold in the Olympics and in other international sports competitions.
Speaking of the program Diaz had said, “I’m happy to see that more girls are going into weightlifting and aiming to become Olympic medalists as well. I am hopeful that weightlifting will grow with more kids getting into the sport not just from Zamboanga City but all over the Philippines.”
