Alsons Power Bags Anvil Award for Hidilyn Diaz Scholarship Program

The Alsons Power Group- Mindanao’s first private-sector power producer, was awarded a Silver Anvil from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) for its scholarship program in partnership with Olympic Silver Medalist and Asian and Southeast Asian Games Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz. Under the program, Alsons Power provides selected potential medal-winning athletes in the Philippine weightlifting team training pool with a regular stipend covering school supplies, uniforms, and daily school expenses to ensure that these “power scholars” get to continue their education while competing for the country. 15 promising student-athletes have been included in the program since its launch in 2017. All of these “power scholars” are from Zamboanga City where Hidilyn Diaz and the Philippine Weightlifting Association have established 3 training centers and where Alsons Power operates the 100 MW Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC) diesel plant- the only major power facility within the City.  Photo Shows: (from left to right) WMPC Community Relations Head Ma. Melissa Margaret Banaag, Alsons Power Corporate Communications Head Junjun Contreras, and Alsons Power Corporate Communications Associate Shayne San Juan
